I have a laptop with XP Home (SP2). I also have an extra copy of XP Pro I
want to put on the machine. I would like to do it as an upgrade to retain
application settings, but I have heard that there is a problim upgrading if
there is Home SP2 on the machine and you try to install from a CD that has
no service packs included. I intend to apply SP2 when I am done.

Thanks

Since a non-SP2 version of Windows XP Professional
cannot upgrade over a version of Windows XP Home
Edition with SP2 installed, you'll have to make a new
Windows XP Pro CD with SP2 "slipstreamed", then
use the new CD to upgrade over Windows XP Home.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

Thanks. The slipstreaming seems to be exactly what I need.
