Due to the fact that 80% of the time, this site is down, at least for me, can
anyone suggest altenate advice forums for those that are sometimes XP
challenged?

This is not a web site. It is a news group. It can be accessed directly with a news
reader from the

news.microsoft.com

news server. If you are accessing this news group indirectly from another news server
which carries this group, THAT news server might be the source of your problem. Another
choice would be to access this group at Google using your web browser:

Hi Zeretul1

You seem to be accessing this group from the web. For best results,
access the news server directly from a NNTP newsreader.

I'd recommend the Mozilla Thunderbird mail/news client from:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

Here's what you should do:

* Download and install Thunderbird
* Launch the program
* When it asks you what type of account to create, click on News
* Enter your name and a fake or munged** email address
* When asked for a server, enter news.microsoft.com
* Then, click on the server in the left pane, and click on
"Manage newsgroup subscriptions" in the right pane
* The rest should be pretty obvious

Note: Thunderbird sorts messages in Ascending date order by default.
(new messages at the bottom). Some people prefer the opposite. To change
this, while in a group, click on View menu -> Sort by -> Descending

HTH

** To stop spammers harvesting your real address. To "munge" your
address, just add something like "NOSPAM", i.e.
becomes

That's a awful lot of trouble when all he has to do is click on Outlook
Express. Besides, using a non-Micros~1 newsreader may void his warranty and
cancel all his registrations with Sunbeam Appliance.

Sorry....latest version of T-Bird is 1.02. Maybe you meant latest
Firefox version 1.03?

A newsgroup isn't a "site" as such but let that pass.

Ziff Davis' PC Mag and Extreme Tech sites can usually proivide good
answers.

Also check out the Manic Geeks forum. It's new.

In addition to the above, the AumHa forums are excellent. Go to
www.aumha.net and check it out. And as Mr. Knudsen told you, this isn't
a "site". Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize
that this is really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this
resource if you learn to use a newsreader. There are many good
newsreaders for Windows, but you can use Outlook Express since you
already have it. Here are some links to information about newsgroups:
