I have a new 120GB hard disk on my PC which is running XP
Home ed SP1. What are the best settings for a large hard
disk? I plan to use the extra storage for music files and
digital photos so it will contain a large number of files,
but the files will not be small.
What is the idea setting for the MFT for such a disk
setup? I guess this will be an update to the registry.
Are there any other parameters I should be settings? e.g.
is it possible to set the amount disk cache held in
memory? I have 1Gb of RAM so I have the headroom to
increase the cache size if it possible to do this.
Thanks
David

Hi
This is a useful URL for formating a disk, but it does
not cover registry settings such as the MFT size. I am
looking to set this correct so as to prevent the MFT
being filled up and so getting fragmented. I think the
default MFT settings are not much use for a 120GB disk,
but I am unsure of the best value to set it to.
Thanks
