my comp is locking up when i use it. i can be doing
anything and it just locks up. i have tried to clean
cookies and temp files, defrag and a disc clean up. i
have no idea how to fix this. if anyone can help me

There can be many causes of lock-ups.
Power off open case and check to be sure all vents are clear, clean
the fans.
Reseat all cables and cards.
Power on and make sure all fans are operating.
Power supply always has a fan, video card and CPU sometimes have a
fan.
Is the computer in a cabinet?
It need several inches free on all sides and especially open front and
back.
Best to not have computer in cabinet at all.
Try these:
Run an updated virus scan.
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
