task manager gone

It appears as if the task manager file has disappeared.
I have tried to access by ctrl/alt/del, and also by right
clicking on empty space on task bar. It may pop up for a
brief moment, or not at all. Thanks for any help!

Head on over to http://security.norton.com and do an online virus scan. It's
a recent trend with viruses to close out of certain apps including the task
manager and A/V software.
