Yesterday, I added a new user (new roomate) to my XP Prof
machine. When I realized she had access to my 'My
Documents' folder direct from their My Computer window,
even though she was a "limited" user and I was an
administrator, I went online and found the procedure to
make my My Documents folder private.
Here's where it gets ugly: My 'My Documents' folder is
many many gigs large (mostly mp3s), and in the middle of
the "making the floder private" process, the PC lost
power!!
Ever since then, any time I login, the machine's HD churns
for about 7 or 8 minutes. Everything works, but
INCREDIBLY SLOWLY, until the HD finishes doing what it's
doing. Also, my shortcut icons on the desktop
remain "generic" until this process is complete. This
also happens when my roomate logs in to her account, and
if Switch User is used. Every time, no matter how many
logins between reboots, no matter how many reboots.
I've tried CHKDSK, defragging, and of course, letting
the "privitization" of the 'My Documents' folder complete
normally. I even tried a system restore to the point
before this happened. Nothing has worked.
