Slow performance when copying files

Hello:

I have some shared folders on my Windows XP pc. My problem is that when
someone starts copying files from those folders, the computer performance
slows down to almost stop reponding, until the file copy process finish.

I also have the same published throug a ftp server and it works fine.

Is there some configuration that can be done to avoid this behavior on
shared folders?
