CD ROM won't open...constant LED Blinking

This started out of the blue. My CD Rom refuses to open. The green LED for
the CD and the hard-drive are constantly blinking in unison. Everything else
appears to be working although significantly slower.

I'm assuming that the blinking hard-drive light indicates that the drive is
being repeatedly accessed (thus explaining the slow speed). Device Manager
tells me all is fine (its not). What's going on?

Is there a CD in it ?

Can you use a paper clip to manually open the drive ? (there should be a
very small hole on the fromt of the CD rom unit, big enouh to fit an opened
out paperclip in it

)

Bend a metal paper clip and push it into the small hole in the front of your
CDrom drive to mechanically open it to remove the CD. Try carefully washing
the CD to see if it can then be read.

There is no CD in the drive.
At one point, several days ago, I was able to open the drive (no more) and
there was nothing in it.
Tried disabling the drive...didn't work
Tried opening it during boot-up...didn't work
Tried System Restore...didn't work

Tried the paper clip maneuver...Access is to tight, can't force the thing open.

Hi,

Is the device driver for the cd drive loaded properly?

In device manager try uninstalling the drive in question then scan for new
hardware changes and or update the driver.

Also, you might check your computer management console under removable
storage, media, to see if any is loaded..

You might try looking at your indexing service to see if it has been set to
the cd's drive letter by mistake, thus causing an endless loop to the drive.

If you have access to another computer you might install the cd drive there
to see if you have the same problem, if you do, toss the thing and get a new
one..
