Is there any problem loading Office 2000 on Windows XP
Professional, instead of loading Office XP?

None that I'm aware of.

If you are doing a fresh install of Office 2000 you should not have any
problems.

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but when I ran Windows XP
as an upgrade on top of 98SE, I had all sorts of problems getting programs
to work correctly, including Office 2000. I finially uninstalled the
programs and reinstalled and everything worked fine. Because I am a nut
about clean installs, eventually I reformatted the hard disk and loaded XP
as a full install and reloaded everything. I have had no problems running
Office 2000 Pro on XP.

None at all. You can also use older versions.

"Instead of" makes it sound like Office XP is in some way
required. It's not. Despite the similarity of their names,
Windows XP and Office XP have nothing to do with each other. The
"XP" has no significance; it's used only for marketing reasons.
