I have used many generations of Windows. One of the most
annoying features I've found with recent releases is that
when I navigate through my folders using Windows Explorer,
the view is constantly flip-flopping from Tiles to List or
Details. I constantly re-set the view to "details" (my
preference), but upon sebsequent visits to the folder the
view has been reset.
Is there any way to define "details" as the default view
for all folders, local or network? I really have no use
for those silly icons.

In Windows Explorer go to any folder. I suggest My Documents, but it doesn't
matter.
Make whatever adjustments you want for viewing this folder - details, etc.
Go to the menu, click on Tools/Folder Options/View tab.
Click on the button, Apply to All Folders. This will model all the rest of
your folders after the one you are looking at.
