Update says to update with sp2a but stops at 7mb and then says unable to
download no reason given why

Perhaps your network is disconnecting you? Maybe malware? Maybe poor network
connection?

At present, there is no "XP Service Pack 2a". The current version of
the XP Service Packs is Service Pack 2.
Perhaps you are referring to Office XP Service Pack 2a. To address
Office XP issues, use a microsoft.public.office.* newsgroup.
