Windows XP + SP2 crashed several times with an STOP: c000021a {Fatal
System Error}, Windows start up terminated with unexpected exception.
0f 0x0000018 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
Now I have reinstalled my windows 7-8 times and same issue each time I
do windows update after installing SP2.
My system is IBM T23, PIII Pentium Mobile 1133Mhz,Hitachi
DVD,256RAM,30GB Hitachi Hardrive,Infra Red Ready,Attached Linksys
WPC54Gv1 for wireless.
I some were read that this happens due to DEP service but under DEP
tab it says that my processor does not support Hardware forced DEP and
DEP through Software is possibel and I have the two options of
enabling DEP for all the program is grayed out and have only ADD
option available.
Now following one forum I also tried editing the Boot.ini by
adding(/NOEXCUTE=AlwaysOff) but it did not help.
Now this is the 10th time I have clean installed the XP and SP2 and
again crashed with the same error.
Last good configuration failed to start
unable to boot in safe mode.
Now I would be really greatful if any real expert can help me out on
this.
I beg for a help form all the experts who read this message

SP2 has some BIG issues but I am sure Microsoft will prevail just give it
some time.

Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what "BIG issues" SP2 has? I have
deployed it to several hundred machines with harldy a whimper. Do you know
something that the rest of us don"t? If so, please share it.

Do you have any USB devices attached? I have seen that error with a very
cheap (forget the brand) USB web cam attached. If the camera was attached
and SP2 was installed it would get the same stop code. Didn't matter if the
drivers were installed or not. Try disconnecting any USB devices if any are
attached.

:D Dear Experts,
Thank you all of you to share your experience with me to rescue me
from this issue, but i thin i am ok now as i have fixed the issue my
self.
Install XP with SP1 then download the network installation SP2 file
from Microsoft and burn a CD and install SP2 from the CD, Once SP2 is
installed go under DEP option and choose the second option "Enable
DEP for all Applications" and then edit Boot.ini and specify
NOEXECUTE=AlwaysOff, then Install IBM Access Software and auto Update
IBM Drivers here u r ready to go.
And just a request here that there might be 1000 of problems every
were and boards are made to share the issues and jointly work towards
the solution, sharing is a good practice and every one get benifit out
of it. Keeping knowledge inside u is of no use so if you know that
there are issues kindly share instead of just making a STATEMENT. we
don’t mind learning from you wink:
Thanks again
:D :D :D :
