View Full Version : Way to store WinXpsp2 Update Files &Copy them.

Periodically I need to re-install Win XP eg new MBoard or whatever and have
to re-download the updates required. Using dial up it is a bit tedious.
Can I just save the Updates already installed on to another Hard drive, CD
etc and just copy them into the re-installed WinXP. I understand they exist
in the Software Distribution folder in the Windows folder?
Can I copy this folder into the re-installed winXP or must I re-download the
Update Files?

Create a slipstream disk which will combine your WindowsXP and SP2 onto a
single disk for reinstallation when needed.

If they are already installed, then no you can't extract them. For sp2
order the free CD from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default810.mspx
For the post SP2 updates on the windows update site use use the custom
install, then individually download the files and save to CD before
installing them.
Another option is to use the windows update catalog:
