Windows update hangs

hello,

it first happened last week when i tried windows update
then hangs, it wasn't like this a couple of weeks ago. so
what i did was i installed the internet explorer sp1 but
still didn't resolved the problem, i ended up with heaps
of other problems so i decided to bring back the computer
to factory shipped state, then after, i installed windows
xp sp1 but now it still doesn't work and sometimes
internet explorer hangs on some microsoft web pages, it
never hanged with other webpages only on microsoft's
windows update (it hangs when i click the scan now
button) and on some microsoft webpages ( i lost track of
those sites). is there anyone out there that could help
me resolve this problems? email me please.
