1) The DVD Rom issue was often associated with having an older version of CD
burning software installed. Do you have CD burning software installed, Easy
CD Creator, Nero, what version, did you check to be sure your version was up
to date and compatible with XP. Did you do an upgrade or clean install of
XP.

2)XP Pro has more security features than Home which allows it to make
greater use of the NTFS file system than Home. Also, Pro can log in to a
domain, something home can't do. Home is a subset of Pro, essentially Pro
with somewhat less functionality. Pro can do anything Home can do and more.

3)You can use the upgrade version of XP to upgrade from 98SE. 98SE is a
valid and acceptable upgrade path to XP.

4)Codename, "Longhorn," I would expect to see it hit the market until
sometime in 2005 at the earliest.

The two are actually identical in all respects, except that
Professional has a few features (mostly related to networking and
security) missing from Home. For most (but not all) home users,
these features aren't needed, would never be used, and buying
Professional instead of Home is a waste of money.

Buy Professional only if you need or want one or more of these
features.

Both XP Home and Professional are available in an Upgrade
version. Among the operating systems they will upgrade is Windows
98SE.

When it's ready. There is no definite date yet, only rumors.
Although there is a code name, the name it will be called when
available for sale also has not yet been announced.
