Took a computer out of service 18 months ago because it
filled up with .eml files. I would really like to find a
way to cure it.
In late July or early August 2001 I got a kakworm on it,
according to Norton, possibly on a signature file through
AOL. I quarantined, as per Norton's recommendation since
it couldn't fix it on the spot, the aol mail files. Then
discovered that Norton's website (at that time) had other
instructions than quarantine, but no cure for that
particular problem.
Went on using computer for a couple of months until it
filled up with these .eml files, one in almost every
conceivable place, most dated the same day in September,
78kb, Outlook Express Mail. The names vary but are taken
from within the system document names. Each shows an
open envelope.
There's also a riched20.dll file that shows up in various
places, 56kb, application extension, with a date a couple
of days before the .eml dates. Does it belong?
The .eml files appear to delete, but reappear. The
system resources claim to be 70% free, but don't act that
way.
Can you help? If not, where should I go for help?
Thanks for any assistance.
