compatibility issues with IBM scanner (TWAIN) and hp deskjet 820Cs

I reecnetly installed an IBM flatbed scanner and now my printer will not
complete printing any document. It starts, stops miday thru the project.
The que empties as though the document finished. I tried uninstalling the
scanner software and the printer works fine.

I really hope they're not both connected to the same LPT port... because
that is a feature that XP does not support. No piggy-backing allowed.
