windows explorer

When I try to open my computer, my documents or the
control panel I get an error message saying window's
explorer has encountered a problem and has to close, this
just started today after I downloaded updates, don't know
if that has anything to do with it but I'm at a loss as
what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have
send lot's of error reports!

This problem keeps getting reported here and in other Windows XP news groups
.. . . it seems to be a relatively common problem but it doesn't show up in
Microsoft's knowledge base articles. It has been happening to me since I
bought our HP Pavilion system. HP hasn't come up with a solution and
Microsoft doesn't seem to have one. I'm still waiting for the multiple
error report messages to generate some kind of solution on Microsoft's end.
