Hi,

I'm having a lot of trouble running previously purchased
software on Windows XP Home Edition that came installed
with a new PC. The Winsdows XP update web site tells me I
need to install a critical update (service pack 1).

I've got the download part of the process done but then
the installation wizard takes me into a process estimated
to take 7 hours. My internet subscription disconnects if
the link is inactive for 15 minutes! I've been trying for
four days but am getting nowhere.

Can anyone help? Is there a way of running the
installation offline once the files are downloaded?

I feel like throwing the PC out of the window!!

Cheers,
Chris

You can download the network install version of SP1a.

Here is the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/sp1lang.asp

Watch the line wrap.

Once downloaded, you cna install without being online. Save it to CD-R in
case you ever have to re-install Windows.
