my pavilion seems very slow. I'm running XP, the computer
has 20.4 free space, 480 MB RAM, Pentium 4, 1.61 GHz.
Task manager says that 41 processes are running and that
CPU usage is 100%. How do I know what these processes
are, and what can be eliminated? How do I stop the
unnecessary ones from running?

The number of processes running is not the root cause of a sluggish
computer. Have you installed the latest drivers for your hardware?
How much RAM is installed? 512MB RAM is ideal for good performance!

You may wish to perform a "tune-up" that may help:

1. Perform a DISK CLEANUP:
(Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup)

2. Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter. In the Command
Prompt window type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter, answer "yes" and
reboot your computer.

3. Afterward, perform a DEFRAG of your hard drive.
