CPU usage percentages jumps around

I am having the same problem. If I restore the system to
a previous day, it does not happen for a while. i have
just removed the scheduled tasks to see if that helps.
it is probably related to an update recently. Please let
me know if there is a fix.

System idle means exactly that. If no program is running you should see the
'system idle process' at about 99%. When a program is running the system is
not idle. A program is running in the background of your system and is
associated with 'system process'. Do you have a scanning virus program
running? In task manager, applications tab what is displayed there?. If you
right click on an item in applications then select 'go to process' it will
tell you what process is associated with that program.
