I recently had problems in that the restore points only lasted a few days.
However after checking the 'turn off system restore' box in system restore
settings, restarting the PC and then un-checking the box everything has
worked well for 8 days. System checkpoints and automatic restore points
were all created correctly until today. The only symptom that something was
wrong occurred when I logged off. . The PC froze. I left it and after about
10 minutes it closed down. When I logged back again all the restore points
had disappeared. I looked at the system event viewer and found 3 instances
of an error with system restore during the past month. The error was the
same each time and the message was: "System restore filter encountered the
unexpected error '0xc0000040' while processing the file ***.Ink on the
volume HarddiskVolume 1. It has stopped monitoring the volume".
*** are 3 different file names but with the same extension.
Please can anyone explain what is happening.
