my system is constantly crashing. the blue screen messages
vary and dont seem to be much of a lead but in the event
viewer i notice it consistently gives the following
explanation.

"Cleaning up corrupt content index metadata on d:\system
volume information\catalog.wci. Index will be
automatically restored by refiltering all documents."

the help center says i can "wait for Indexing Service to
re-index the content automatically or, if you have a
backup copy of the index, you can restore it."

should i just format my d drive or can anyone suggest an
alternate solution?

You may wish to perform a "tune-up" that may help:

1. Perform a DISK CLEANUP:
(Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup)

2. Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter. In the Command
Prompt window type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter, answer "yes" and
reboot your computer.

3. Afterward, perform a DEFRAG of your hard drive.
