I have a very similar problem on my laptop. I think it
occurred after running it on battery for awhile. The
process taking up 100% of the cpu's is "SYSTEM". I can't
find any fixes yet. I did find that if I put it
in "Standby" (Start > SHutdown > Standby > OK) then take
it out of standby (hit any key), CPU usage temporarily
behaves normally, but this only lasts for a little while.
