View Full Version : Windows File Protection?

When Windows File Protection finds a file that it needs to restore,
how can I find the name of the file? This is Windows XP Pro, but info
for other versions is also appreciated!
There should be a DETAILS or ADVANCED button to show what's
happening... or even an entry in the Event Viewer or even just a text
log.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but this looks like digital file signing, not
Windows File Protection.
When windows boots and says that "Some have been altered. To maintain
system stability some files need to be copied from your Windows XP
CD..." (not the exact message) how do I know what files it wants to
restore?

Why would you even want to know? Just let it fix your PC.

To see which files that has been restored, do the following:
Start -> Run -> compmgmt.msc
Look under Computer Management -> System Tools -> Log Book -> Systems Log
Look for "Windows File Protection" logs and dubbel click them to get info
about files.

Thank you VERY much!
For some reason I didn't see this when I looked in the event viewer,
but I didn't know what "source" to look for.
....and as I suspected, Windows is trying to replace a legitimately
altered DLL file.
