On windows update website, there is this message " win xp users: new secuirty
updates are now available here for sp1 and sp2 only"
does that means those system without sp1/sp2 cannot get more updates unless
there system is already sp1/sp2. If that is the case, how can we get to sp1
status if you do a system recovery/reofrmat with an ordinary xp cd. (without
sp1/sp2).

TIA

No more updates unless you update to SP1 or better yet sp2.....which will be
the only updates a new install can get

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about
the problem

Su Su, you are behind the curve. Months ago, most were advised to create
a slipstreamed WinXP CD + SP2. For info on
how to accomplish this check here

No more updates are being created specifically for Windows XP pre Service
Pack.
The previously created updates are still available and will probably be
available for a year or more.
Additionally the Service Pack will be available almost indefinitely.
Nothing will stop you from using Windows Update and installing available
updates and Service Packs.
You do not need a slipstreamed CD although it may come in convenient if
reinstallation is necessary.
