Hey,
I use to have windows98 on this machien but recently went XP PRO SP2....

I installed drivers for my motherboard via (VIA actually is name) form their site and then I installed the video drivers for my nvidia video card. I play game such as MOHAA fine and can see clearly even before I installed drivers. The problem is playing video files.

I watch alot of videos on my computer. When I try and play a video, the quality sucks. The sound is good. But when it plays video it looks almost like there are 256 colors or something, just really really crappy.

Please give me some help on this, i really need it and want it! I NEED TO SEE THE VIDEOS BETTER! lol thanks,
-luper

Give us more of a clue... what kind of "videos" are you playing... files?
DVDs? Something from an online source?

If files, what are their extensions?

Also what are the pc specs, if it's an old pc which you have just installed
XP on, it may not have good enough specs to play them.

I have played video from mpegs to ogm to avi every looks same, crappy!
I have a fairly old computer, its 1.5ghz (AMD 1800+ XP cpu[ Processor x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~1533 Mhz], GeForce FX 5200, NVIDIA, floppy don't work but thats irrelevent. I know it has something to do with XP since I viewd the video good on Windows 98 and it looks fine on linux (dual boot just to watch anime, sad? lol)...

I checked the video drivers and heres the list (from the system information). i recently installed some codecs and they aren't working :( which has somethign to do with it i think, i installed for MKV and OGM files. It keeps coming up with error for couldn't download/find approrpiate decompressor!
Heres the list of codecs i got for video:

Right now I can't view Avi files(most of them anyways), OGM, or MKV at all, and Mpgs look crappy. :( ... Something about a decompressor, note that video quality hasn't changed before or after I installed any of these codecs!

I think thats enough about my computer, its fairly fast (not as fast a yalls probably lol), and XP runs smoothly, I play mohaa smoothly, msn, aim, TS, photoshop, the works. Thanks for the help btw!
