every time i log onto the computer, i keep on losing
around ten megabytes of hdd space. I've done two
different virus scans and the computer has not detected a
virus. I recently installed the norton antivirus 2003,
which also gave me the norton antivirus protection
recycle bin. Could this be the thing taking up the space,
cos i keep deleting the protected files in there but i
still dont get enough space back.

Look for a log file being generated such as bootlog. If you are logging
something the logfile will keep getting larger.
