Hi,
What i did is to clear the CMOS by jumper, and then turn the machine on.
First try, nothing, i shuted down the computer.
Second try, it works!!!
But the problem is not solved, becouse as i shuted down the computer again,
from the 3º reboot the same problem arrived.

So, this help me to know that the video card seems to work, and that it is
compatible with my system (wich was a posible problem). But now i think it
must be that the conector of the video card is bad in some way, i don't
know.

If anyone has a clue i'll be apreciated.
Thanks for all the suggestions to all.

One other thing and forgive my ignorance, but could the problem be that i
need to update my source of 300 Watts for a better one, because the only
time i could boot with the radeon 9600 pro the boot process went very
unstable.

Hi,
I have problems installing an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256 Mbs video card.
The problem is that the monitor stays allways in stand by mode and it
doesn't start even if i try to turn it on manually, if i do that, it come
back to stand by mode.
I have to take out the card from the AGP slot and conect the monitor to the
integrated video (ATI 9200) conector in order to make it work.

I check in thye bios config utillity and in the MB manual and there is no
config to disable the on-board video.
The Radeon 9600 card is well installed fisically and functioning, the fun
works as i turn on the computer and as i said, when i conect the monitor to
its conector, the monitor correctly enters in stand by mode (the problem is
that it stays in that mode after starting the computer).

My MotherBoard: "Asus P4R800-VM"
My Bios: "AMI Bios" updated with the last update.

I find it hard to believe there is no option in the BIOS to disable the
onboard video.

But, you rerally should be asking the tech support folks at Asus for help -
it is their motherboard.

There is a video card related option in BIOS to declare which card is
supported at Boot. Suggest you try it if you haven't already done so. Also
the Asus site does show a chipset driver update as well as BIOS updates.

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the manual for the mainboard from Asus
(version e1662).

As you say, I see no BIOS setting to choose between the onboard graphics and
the AGP slot. (There's a setting to search PCI or AGP first, but I presume
that the onboard graphics adapter is AGP too.) Maybe it's supposed to be
automatic.

The only setting I see that may be of interest is the one for the shared
memory ("UMA") for the onboard graphics. (It's under Advanced settings.) One
of the options is "none", which I'd expect to disable the onboard graphics
altogether. It may be worth a try.

My main suggestion is:

Have the installer for the ATI graphics drivers on hand. (CD or download.)

Uninstall the graphics drivers (Add or Remove Programs control panel, if
you're running Windows.)

Shut the machine down, rather than reboot.

Install the 9600. Connect the monitor to the 9600.

Boot up. With luck, the system will boot into a VGA mode, on the 9600.

Re-install the ATI graphics drivers.

Best of luck.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Usally, if there is no BIOS settings for the disabling of the on-board video
then there should be a motherboard jumper. If noy then the motherboard may
be a model where if there is an AGP video card in the AGP slot, it would
disable the on-board video card automatcially. However, you may need to
have the AGP slot set up correctly with the correct AGP speed (2x, 4x or
8x) that matches the Radeon 9600 speed.

You have to tell the BIOS to use the AGP Graphics Card, and the
graphics card is not 256Mbs becasue that would mean 256 Megabits per
second, which is very slow, it will in fact be 256MB of RAM, which is
how much memory it has, i felt this needed clarifiying.
