Hi: I took a working modem from my old PC and installed it on my new
computer, but I can not connect to the Internet , The medem is a
Creative Broadxent DSI V.92 PCI DI3631, I loaded the drivers for it,
for some reason It will not connect to the Internet, the modem dials and
it goes thru the initial 4 or 5 steps into the connection, and then
disconects, sometimes I get a message like " the connection to the
server is taking to long".
I have emoved the moden and reinstalled on my old computer and it works
fine. any ideas?
The new computer is an intel p4 on a intel motherboard running Windows
XP Professional ( note this is an evaluation version of XP)
TIA
Miguel

Well, if it's going that far, it seems the modem is functioning, but it's
not getting a proper response from the other end. Make sure all the
networking settings are correct, and that you don't have a firewall or
something blocking the connection.

To test that the modem is actually dialing and saying something to the other
computer, you can call a regular phone and see if it rings, like your home
number or cell, and see if the error message is correct. Does it report no
answer or busy (whichever is appropriate).
