How "critical" is the Critical Service Pack 1 when
operating on a Hewlet Packard Pavillion 752n. I am aware
of the problems of Microsoft/HP interface and am prepared
to download HP fix. But my computer is working fine and
to download the Service Pack 1 takes hours on a dial up
connection, tying up the phone line for hours, only to
have a failure after about six or so hours...is it worth
the aggrevation...what are the end benefits of the
pack...Len payne, Vancouver

Hi Len,
You can order SP1a on disk for about $10.00 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp
You definantly need it. It contains all the critical updates posted up that
time. Without these "Hot Patches" you are opening yourself up to several
possible risks.
In addition to the SP you should get, at least, the critical updates from
Windows update sight. And any non critical updates if they apply to your
system. If you like they can be downloaded from the Windows Catalog and
stored on your HD.
It is most important that you keep the Operating System up to date. Not to
do so is playing with fire. It is just a matter of time until you get
burned.
