help needed

I have a licensed copy of Xp Pro SP1. When I go to
windows update, I attempt to download, but nothing
happens.It says "Windows is downloading updates to your
computer...please wait." Nothing happens! When I try to
download through the catalog, same thing...the download
never begins. Please help. Thanks in advance!!!!
