error messages on windows xp

Ever since my wife tried to move some pictures from My
Pictures to e-mail to send out as an attachement to an e-
mail message, I cannot access Control Panel, My
Documents, My Computer, My Music or about half of the
options on the start menu and the shortcut icons on my
screen. I get a message stating that Windows explorer has
encountered a problem and must close. I cannot get into
control panel to even attempt to fix anything. Does
anybody have any thoughts on what is happening when I try
to access these features and how can I fix it? Thanks for
any help.
