Yesterday, I received update files from Norton Internet
Security and from the Windows updater. These were
installed automatically. Since that time, on start up no
sounds come up, the start up screen now takes several
minutes to load the programs and Norton Internet Security
Professional will not load automatically. I have to
select it from the desktop. Everything was working fine
until these updates happened. Microsoft says it is an
eMachines problem, and eMachines says it is Norton or
Microsofts' problem. I am running a 1.8 gig Celeron with
1 Gb of RAM and Windows XP@ Home. Does anyone have any
ideas, other than scrapping the computer?

Randy;
1. Try uninstalling the Updates in Add/Remove Programs.
2. Uninstall Norton, reboot, install Norton.
3. System Restore to a time before issue started.
