I am having a serious ongoing problem with my officejet
v40 (A four-in-one).

Problem: The printer freezes up after printing about half
a page. The exception in when I uninstall and then
reinstall the printer. It will print the document. it
will initiate printing on the next document and freeze up.

I have been in touch with HP Help techs several times. We
have established that it is not a hardware problem as a
test page has been printed (several times) as well as
after the printer was reinstalled, printing a full
document and then freezine when the next document is
printed.

I am using a AMD Athlon motherboard with a 700 MgH
processor and 384 MB of Ram.

I have downloaded and applied all of the required patchs
that have been recommended.

The following causes of the problem were suggest:

1. Insufficent power because the printer is attached to a
surge protector (Tried a direct connect to the wall plug.
No improvment)

2. Ran a HP diagnostic to detremine if the correct driver
was being used. (It was).

3. A suggestion that maybe the USB cable, or the PCI port
was malfunctioning. (I replace the cable with a new one,
got a new PCI card and even replaced the telephone cord
with a new one. No improvement)

4. And then after talking to techie number six:
a. HP V 40 is not compatiable with with XP Pro.
b. XP is not compatable with AMD motherboard.

I found nothing to substantiate this claim. I called HP
back to have a tech read the notes and give me the info
again, I was told that the tech would never write
anything like that down. Conclusion: The "Not compatible"
explination may be a generic answer to an probelm that
cannot be solved by the tech.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would apprciate the
help. Please e-mail me at .

Thanks in advance

Check in your BIOS to insure that the bi-directional is set on the port.
