disk cleanup

Hi hope someone out there can help me
My disk cleanup wont work on XP.
It gets as far as calculating how much space will be
saved but doesnt finish this stage.
it also says compressing old files but this doesnt happen
either. I have tried to find disk cleanup on my XP disk
so I can reinstall it but cant find it.
Some help would be realy good and much appreciated.
