On WinXP Pro SP2 System, I Need a Bootable Floppy

I need to flash the BIOS on my motherboard. First, however, I need to
create a BOOTABLE floppy on which to save the original motherboard BIOS and
the flash memory writer before flashing the motherboard to the new BIOS.
That way, if the new BIOS doesn't work, I can Flash the old BIOS onto my
mb,.

A WinXP Pro SP2 Command Prompt will not permit me to execute Format A:/S.
So, how can I create a bootable floppy disk under WinXP Pro SP2?

You can do this by putting a blank floppy in the drive. Open Explorer. Right
click. Go to format. You will see options to create a bootable floppy there.
Be warned that there is darn little room free on the floppy when you do it
this way. It will likely NOT be good for you.

Now, you can boot your computer using a Windows 98se setup floppy. After
booted up, take out the setup floppy and put in a clean floppy. Now you can
do a format a: /s which will leave you maximum free space for your flashing
program, the .bin file and backing up your present bios.

If I understand ASUS' instructions for Flashing my BIOS correctly, I need to
create a DOS Bootable floppy with no Autoexec.bat and no config.sys. In
other words, I need exactly what would be on that floppy if I could go to a
real DOS prompt and enter FORMAT A:/S. After doing so, I'll need to save my
motherboard's current BIOS along with a copy of the flash writer onto that
floppy in case I need to revert to my mb's current BIOS.

You can also use one of the boot disks from www.bootdisk.com

After you format a: /s you need to copy the flash program and the .bin file
to the floppy. When you boot up, run the flash program. The first option is
to backup your current bios. Just give it a file name and save it to the
floppy. There should be room to do this.

Then burn the new bios to the chip.

AA, I endorse what fj said, go to www.bootdisk.com and download Driver
Free Disk for Bios Flashing (drdflash.exe). It works beautifully and
takes up only 120k on the floppy.
