Cannot install (critical Update Q817287)

Get failed to install message---Q817287:Critical Update
(Catalog Database Corruption in Microsoft Windows XP)

This is the only update that I cannot install.
What do I have to do, to correct the database problem,
and install this update.

XP also hangs on start-up. Could the database problem be
causing this also.
