Even after a clean install on a new hard disk it needs to be defragmented! A
question no one is asking is what brand computer is it? Compaq, HP and most
others install all kinds of crap that will slow you down and are not really
needed.

It is a dell, & yes it has tons of crap starting up on
it automattically, what I want to know is what does it
need to just run, like for instance win98 only needs
loadpowerprofile & systray to run.

Nothing is needed the only startup program I have is my anti-virus. Go to
add remove programs to get rid of the 'junk' you don't need.

Whoa! That is very bad advice. Why go to add/remove?? And do what? Delete
programs?? How about just preventing them from loading and /or starting?

If you have ever owned a Compaq you would know there are at least 20
programs installed by default that will never be used. If you don't NEED a
program why keep it? It is very sound advice.
