View Full Version : Reinstall all SP2 and XP Updates from disc?

For some reason my XP Pro won't recognise my camcorder any more. SFC indicates corruption. I'd like to reinstall XP. BUT, if I reinstall from the Asus disk I will have XP old version, pre SP1. Can I then reinstall all SP2 and XP Updates from disc? Or will I have to download everything from scratch from the MS update site? I have all the $ folders on my %systemroot%.
Thanks, Gabriele

You will have to download SP2 and all post hotfixes after SP2. The folders
that you are describing, it just to uninstall hotfixes. I would download
SP2 first before you reinstall XP then install SP2 before connecting to the
internet.
You can download SP2 here

The best way would be to make a slipstreamed XP SP2............a method where Sp2 is incorporated into XP and made bootable.
In this way you would do one installation and then check for updates on the website.
here is a website on how to do this
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/
look down the page for Bootable Windows XP installation CD-Rom (with SP1) and just sub SP2 for SP1
It works great

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about the problem

Your best bet is to create a new installation CD with SP2
splipstreamed into it and then install from that.
Nlite is a free utility that will make the slipstreamed CD and will
also incorporate the Post-SP2 updates into the CD if you download and
save these.
