Strange Sounds???

Can anyone tell me why my computer makes a sound that
resembles a door shutting now and then? It is really
pretty annoying when the volume is turned up on the
speakers and you're in the middle of working.

Any help on how to turn it off would be appreciated.

From where the sound comes please mention either from the internal system i
mean the metal box or the sound blasters

Do you maybe have Yahoo Messenger running? You describe the default sound
of a friend going offline.
