View Full Version : "use simple file sharing" will not stay disabled

Simple file share
August 9th 05, 09:44 PM
Hello,
I have one windows XP sp2 machine in a workgroup that will not remember the
setting to disable the simple file sharing. If I logon with admin rights it
will stay uncheck for that session. But after a restart it will enable the
simple file sharing again. If I logon with a limited account it allows me to
disable it but as soon as I open the folder options back up it will be
re-enabled.

Is there something that could be setting this on startup?

Is this XP Pro or XP Home? Home is set to have simple file sharing always on
according to the KB...

I have an idea but I've never tried it... You *could* try this:

Start > run > type regedit > enter > dig down to this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa

Right click and edit the ForceGuest REG_DWORD and change the value to
decimal 0.

Exit regedit and it might require logging off or rebooting but hopefully the
security tab will be enabled. I don't play with Home that much.

Just so you know editing the registry isn't the brightest thing to do though
many of us do it all the time. However, you have been warned. For a better
warning:
