My "Windows Media Player" plays very distorted and
scratchy music; on the other hand, when I play the same
music on my purchased Easy CD Creator, it sounds just fine.
Any ideas as to what is wrong...

I can't really say what's wrong, because everything works fine with Easy CD
Creator, as you've said.

Doyou have the latest drivers for you sound card? And are they Microsoft
signed? If not, and if possible, use the drivers supplied with Windows XP.

That's how I solved the same problems of scratchy sound with my Sound
Blaster Live! Value.I uninstalled the "latest" Creative-supplied drivers,
and used the built-in Windows XP drivers instead.

Also, you failed to mention of you're using the Windows Media Player that is
installed by default with Windows XP. If you are, then try downloading and
installing the new Windows Media Player 9 Series.

It's MUCH better. I've even stopped using WinAmp because of WMP 9...
