Hello!
I have found a posting advising to delete the content of
the C:\windows\preftech folder in order to speed up XP.
First question is what are the files in the preftech
folders referring to?
Second question is if it safe to delete the files, as it
was posted on one of the Microsoft newsgroups and if
indeed this will solve the slow down issues?
Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you for your
help.
Regards,
Liviu

The Prefetch folder contains information for the optimal disk layout
of program files so they launch quicker. You may delete all those =
files,
but XP will rebuild that folder so that your computer runs as =
efficiently
as possible. It is advisable not to delete prefetch files because your =
computer
will be sluggish for a few days. Deleting the files will not speed up =
XP....it will
do the opposite.

Do you mean 'prefetch'? The name describes its function. It is basically a
means of speeding up your computer.
