my cd dvd drives have stopped reading

please help, my cd dvd drives stopped reading about two weeks ago for some
unknown reason, when i insert a cd/game/dvd the cd spins and the drive lights
up as usual but then it stops, and when i try to open the drive on my
computer it says "please insert disc" whats happened?

Have you tried running a CD drive cleaner?

I Have the exact same problem and my laptop is brand new. One day I was
trying to burn a disc then is stopped and told me the disc was faulty. Since
then my DVD RW has stopped working ie it wont read and type of disc DVD, VCD
or CD. When I inserts a disc it just spins very slowly and windows reports
that the drive is not ready. Does anyone know a solution for this. Please
note that Iam using a laptop and it has nothing to do with IDE cables since
there are none, and it cannot possibly be the drive is needing cleaned as it
is brand new.
