i'm new to xp (home edition). we set up teo separate admin accounts, one for
my wife and one for myself. now we realize that it's not just settings that
are separate, but you cannot see programs, pictures, desktop files etc etc on
each others'a accounts. is there a way to merge the admin accounts so we can
see all the information, and if so, do we need to set up tweo separate user
accounts to safely access this information? thank you!

You need to give some thought to how you and your wife want to use the
computer. If you want to each have separate user accounts but have the
same programs and pictures in each one, do these two things:

1. Right-click the Start button and choose "Explore All Users". You'll
now get the Explorer two-paned view and will see the Start Menu for
every user on the system. Look at your Start Menu and that of your
wife's account. Copy the programs you both want to appear into the All
Users Start Menu and the entries will appear on - all users' Start
Menus! Right-click and drag works well here. The entries in the Start
Menus are just shortcuts to the programs, not the programs themselves.

2. Put pictures and other files you want to share into the Shared Files
folder. Then all users on the computer will be able to access them.

If that is too much trouble, just either make a new account for both of
you and set it up the way you both want or copy over data from one of
your accounts and delete the other account from the User Accounts
applet in Control Panel.
