I am using WIN XP Home version. Recently something has
happened that causes the boot times to become very, very
long.
Right clicking during the boot-up (to see what is going on
behind the scenes) has revealed that when RAM is being
checked the process checks 3 or 4 MB and then the process
pauses for 3 or 4 seconds, then checks another 3 or 4 MB,
pauses 3 or 4 seconds, etc, etc, etc.
Since I have 384MB of RAM this causes the boot time to
become rather long.
Once the boot-up has finished the system seems to be
operating normally.
Why does the boot process pause after checking every 3 or
4 MB? How do I return the system to original
configuration?
Please send a copy of your response to my email address.

This has nothing to do with XP as this is the BIOS before the OS is even
loaded. Perhaps your RAM is bad or you need to update the BIOS.

Thanks for your response.
Update the BIOS??? I was unaware that was possible.
Could you tell me how to do that?
