I am attempting to repair my install of XP (trying to avoid a complete
redo at this point). When I pop my XP disk in, it does not allow me to
do anything since I have SP2 loaded. So, my next step was to
slipstream SP2 onto my XP setup disk.

I followed the directions in this article:

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

I have now managed to create 3 disks that are readable, but not
bootable. I pulled the img file directly from the XP disk. Thinking
maybe the XP disk was corrupt, I tried booting that disk. It worked
fine.

Thinking I may have a bios issue on the PC, I tried all 3 disks in two
other computers. Same code 5 error.

BTW... I tried burning on two different PCs, with one using Roxio 5.2,
and the other using the latest NERO... no difference.

Any thoughts? If I can't get around it, what other options do I have?

I made my slipsstreamed copy following the directions from here
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/
about 3/4 of the way down........Bootable Windows XP installation CD-Rom
(with SP1
just substitute SP2 for SP1
works and boots

He can also download and use Autostreamer. Automates the entire process and
has worked flawlessly for me many times...:-)

Yeah! This is the way to go since Autostream will automatically add the
"boot" image to the CD. I tried the steps to create the bootable CD but it
is confusing!
