Trying to fax but Communication Port Unavailable???

I am trying to fax using Fax Tools but keep getting a message that says
Communication Port unavailable. I have double checked and made sure that my
DSL line is unplugged and my fax modem is plugged in. Beyond that I am at a
loss. What do I do now?

A DSL line is digital. A telephone line is analog. You cannot fax over a
digital line. Get a filter if you are connecting the fax modem to the same
socket as the DSL would normally connect.
