Hello,
I have a stupid question about creating a shortcut to Windows Update.
I use Netscape Navagator 7.02 as my default web browser. And I used to
have a shortcut to Windows Update pinned to my start menu. When I was
online if I clicked on the shortcut, Internet Explorer would launch
itself and go to the Windows Update page to check for updates.
Well, yesterday I suddenly noticed that the Windows Update shortcut that
was pinned to my start menu was gone, and in it's place was a shortcut to
the file transfer wizard.
I don't know why this happened. But I removed the shortcut to the Wizard.
And tried to create a new shortcut to Windows Update, like I had before.
Only thus far it has not worked out like I planned. I cannot seem to
create a shortcut to Windows Update like I had before. Here is what I
have done...
I could not remember exactly how I created the first shortcut (the one
that worked fine with Internet Explorer). So this is what I have tried...
I opened Internet Explorer and went to the Windows Update page. I then
added that page to my Internet Explorer favorites. And then I dragged
the entry from my favorites onto the desktop and said to create a short
cut here.
It seemed to work, I now have an internet shortcut on my desktop called
"Windows Update" and it points to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
But when I click on it, it launches in Netscape, and not Internet
Explorer. (Because my default browser is Netscape). Why did the previous
shortcut automatically launch in Internet Explorer?
How can I force this specific shortcut to launch in Internet Explorer?
My default browser has always been Netscape. But the previous shortcut
launched in Internet Explorer. What was special about that shortcut that
told it to use Internet Explorer?
I would just like to recreate it. I know this must have been possible,
because it was always that way before.
Can anyone here please give me some answers?
I hope I have explained my question well enough.
Thank You.
